Texas Tailgaters Arlington Sport reviews
The first time I saw Texas Tailgaters was the first time I saw any musical. Unfortunately, it was around the time the movie had come out and I went in with HIGH expectations. My biggest qualm with Texas Tailgaters the musical is that there are NO sets and NO props to speak of.
At this performance, both Velma Kelley and Roxie Hart's portrayers played their parts very Ethel Merman-like. They were just playing their singing roles a bit too... character-y for me? I was not at all impressed with their vocal ranges, though at spots, it felt like they COULD have sung much better than they did.
If you are expecting the elaborate show that you got in the movie, you will be disappointed. Texas Tailgaters is pretty much the worst thing I've seen for sets. I have seen LOTS of musicals since the first time I've seen Texas Tailgaters and I am REALLY into the elaborate sets that you see in Wicked, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Phantom...
This is the second time I have seen Texas Tailgaters and I appreciate a bit more the second time, but it is still not one of my favorites. The orchestra sits on a three-tiered scaffold in the middle of the stage so the viewer has to use their imagination for any background or atmosphere. I have seen LOTS of musicals since the first time I've seen Texas Tailgaters and I am REALLY into the elaborate sets that you see in Wicked, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Phantom...
The one MAJOR plus to this show was the dancing. Extraordinary dancing capabilities from the entire cast, some of the best I've seen. Also, Tom Wopat played his part great.
